Welcome to the Burton & District Inter Club Tennis League .

The league was formed in 1936 .

The first meeting took place at the Station Hotel , Burton . The Clubs represented  were Halls Collieries , Sharp Bros. , Knight , Burton Public Services , Church Gresley Church , Salt Bros. , Burton YMCA and Netherseale .

There were six men's teams and seven mixed teams in that first season . Unfortunately no records exist for the Ladies teams .

The original league secretary was a Mr F H Smith  , the father of our present treasurer Nigel .He continued his duties until 1965 .

Our current league secretary is Mrs Josephine Matkin who has presided in this role since 1997 .

The Burton league now consists of 21 Clubs and 103 teams .

The league is  friendly and enjoyable  to play in and always welcomes new clubs and players who wish to participate .
